CULTUREDALE/CALDERDALE COUNCIL, ACDC ARTS CHARITY, KALEIDOSCOPE SUMMER SHOW 2023, DOVE & BEAR, CAF-A CALDERDALE COLLEGE, THE CREATIVE CORE HALIFAX.
Throughout my studies, I have had the opportunity to work on a range of live briefs for real clients, including Calderdale Council, CULTUREDALE, ACDC Arts Charity, Dove & Bear, CAF-A at Calderdale College, The Creative Core Halifax, and the Kaleidoscope Summer Show 2023. These projects have given me hands-on experience in responding to professional briefs, developing creative concepts, and presenting solutions that align with each client’s goals and audience.
Working on these briefs challenged me to think strategically while staying creatively flexible. I was involved in various aspects of the design process, including research, ideation, branding, campaign design and presentation. Each project helped strengthen my communication, time management and problem-solving skills, while giving me a strong insight into working collaboratively in a creative industry setting.

Kaleidoscope Exhibition – End-of-Year Show Design
As part of a collaborative module, I worked with students across Art and Design Level 5 and 6 to develop a cohesive visual identity for the end-of-year show, Through the Kaleidoscope. My role focused on designing exhibition materials, including posters, banners, social media assets, and opening night literature, with the BA (Hons) Contemporary Art and Design Practice students as our clients.
The theme "Through the Kaleidoscope" symbolises the individuality and diversity of creative voices within the group. I explored this concept by using layered design elements and CYMK colour schemes, inspired by the works of Jonathan Lax and Valp Maciej Hajnrich. My design approach combined digital techniques and experimentation with form and colour to reflect the unique perspectives of each contributor, celebrating our collective creativity.

Working in the Creative Industry
As part of a live brief for Calderdale Council under the CULTUREDALE initiative, I was involved in designing digital assets to support their branding and communications. While another student’s work was selected for the final email signature designs, the council responded very positively to the banner concepts I developed as part of the same brief.
They were particularly impressed with the creativity, visual clarity and professional quality of my designs, which led to them selecting my work for use across Calderdale. As a result, my banners were printed and displayed throughout the region, giving my work significant public visibility and contributing to a wider cultural campaign.
This project gave me practical experience working with a real client, interpreting brand guidelines, and delivering high-quality, impactful designs under a professional brief. It also reinforced my ability to create work that resonates with a wide audience and meets real-world design standards.

Major Collaborative Project
As part of a major collaborative project, I was given the opportunity to design promotional materials for Calderdale Council in support of CULTUREDALE, their Year of Culture campaign. The aim of the brief was to create engaging and eye-catching visuals that would help promote the events taking place across Calderdale throughout the year.
My responsibilities included designing posters, pamphlets and banners. I wanted to develop quirky and vibrant visuals that would attract attention in public spaces and reflect the creative energy of the campaign. The use of bold colours and playful design elements helped communicate the fun and inclusive spirit of the Year of Culture.
My designs were very well received by the council and were selected to be displayed across Calderdale. This experience gave me the chance to work with a real client on a public-facing campaign and allowed me to apply my creativity in a professional and meaningful way.

As part of a live brief from Calderdale College, I was given the opportunity to develop a full brand identity for CAF-A, a new student-run café located in the Percival Whitley Centre. The project involved a four-week design sprint, during which I collaborated with peers to explore typography, colour palettes, and brand concepts, before developing and refining my own visual identity. I created several logo ideas and mock-ups, eventually focusing on a dandelion motif to represent individuality, growth and student diversity. I applied this identity across a range of branded materials, including packaging, uniforms and signage. Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I visualised my final logo across real-world products to help the marketing team at the college see how the brand could be applied within the café space. This project gave me valuable experience in design thinking, client collaboration and professional presentation.

The Creative Core gave us a brief to design a concept for an interactive exhibition experience that would engage a wide audience in a museum or gallery setting. The aim was to explore how graphic design, illustration, and storytelling could be used to bring history to life in a more immersive and creative way.
The design had to work across three connected rooms, with a strong visual theme running through each space. We were encouraged to think about how people would move through the rooms, interact with the space, and connect with the stories being told. This included looking at materials, textures, colours, and how illustration and layout could support the theme.
I worked collaboratively with my group over three weeks to develop ideas. We shared research, discussed historical context, and explored how design choices could reflect the story of Josephine and John Bowes. We also looked into colour palettes, abstract shapes, and ways to tie the three rooms together through consistent design elements.
Although we worked as a group, I was responsible for creating the final visual board. I brought together all the ideas we developed into one cohesive design. I carefully planned the layout, selected colours and visuals, and included key features such as a lightbox, which added a touch of interactivity and curiosity. I also made sure the board reflected both the group’s ideas and my own personal design style.
This project taught me a lot, not only about design but also about working as part of a team and taking ownership of my part in the process. It made me realise how interested I am in exhibition and spatial design, especially in environments like museums and galleries where there’s always something new to learn and be inspired by.
